Also, this cut-off mark listed above is not what will be used solely for admission. Other requirements are your O-level results grades and subject combinations. So it is possible to score above this listed cut-off mark, and you won’t be admitted into the course you want.

FULafia Admission Quota: Catchment States and ELDS Explained

While the JAMB cut-off mark is the first hurdle, the Federal University Lafia (FULafia) follows the Federal Government’s 45:35:20 admission criteria. This means your state of origin plays a massive role in whether you get admitted. Admission is given based on three factors, which include the merit category making 45%, the catchment area 35%, and Education Less Developed state (ELDS) make 20% of the total admission.

1. The Merit Category (45%)

This is open to every Nigerian, regardless of their state. If you score extremely high (e.g., 250+ for Nursing) and have very strong O’level grades (A1, B2, B3), you will be admitted under “Merit” even if you are from Lagos, Delta, or Imo. This merit category takes about 45% of the total admissions.

2. The Catchment States (35%)

FULafia gives special preference to candidates from its immediate geographical zone. If you are from any of the following states, your “internal” cut-off mark may be slightly lower than the general merit mark. When the merit cut-off mark for Medicine is 300 candidate from the catchment area will have a cutoff mark of 280 for the same medicine. The catchment states of FULafia are:

  • Nasarawa (Home State)

  • Benue

  • Kogi

  • Plateau

  • Kaduna

  • FCT (Abuja)

3. Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS) (20%)

To ensure every part of Nigeria is represented, 20% of the admission slots are reserved for candidates from ELDS t. If you are from any of the states below, you have a higher chance of admission with a lower score.

  • Northern States: Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe, Zamfara.

  • Other States: Adamawa, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Kwara, Niger, Rivers.

This state are education disadvantage state, and so candidates from this state are offered admission even with a low JAMB score.

Special Advice: If you are from a Non-Catchment state (like the South-West or South-East) and you want to study a competitive course like Medicine or Nursing in FULafia, you must aim for at least 15–20 marks above the listed cut-off to be safe on the Merit list

Conclusion

The minimum cut-off mark for admission into the Federal University Lafia is pegged at 170 in UTME. However, the cut-off mark for each course is different. You must score above this minimum cut-off in your UTME before you can be eligible to purchase the school’s post-UTME form.
